ISO 17712 High Security seals require a minimum cable diameter of 5.0mm to meet the strength and tamper resistance standards of the ISO 17712 H classification. These seals are designed for cargo containers used in international shipping and customs controlled environments. Cable seals below 5.0mm do not qualify for High Security classification and are intended for lower risk applications.

Indicative cable seals are typically 1.5mm in diameter and are used for visual tamper indication rather than physical resistance. Security cable seals offer moderate strength and are commonly used for domestic transport and asset control. High security cable seals meet ISO 17712 H classification, use cables of 5.0mm or greater, and are required for international containerized cargo and C-TPAT compliance.

C-TPAT compliance requires the use of ISO 17712 certified high security cable seals for sealing cargo containers entering the United States. This means logistics operators must select cable seals that meet ISO testing standards, include unique serial numbers, and provide documented resistance to tampering. Failure to use compliant seals can result in shipment delays or inspections.

To verify ISO 17712 compliance, suppliers must provide independent laboratory test reports confirming the seal meets the required tensile strength, shear resistance, and tamper evidence standards. ISO 17712 compliant seals are also marked with the appropriate classification and are traceable through serialized identification.

1.5mm cable seals are best suited for low risk applications such as truck doors, rail cars, totes, and internal logistics where tamper evidence is required but high physical resistance is not necessary. These seals provide visual indication of interference and are commonly used in domestic transport and inventory control.

5.0mm cable seals meet the strength requirements for ISO 17712 High Security classification, making them suitable for international container shipping, ports, and customs controlled cargo. Their thicker galvanized steel cable resists cutting and manipulation, helping prevent unauthorized access during long transit routes.
